The primary objective of this research is to examine what characteristics of the visual environment affect postural sway. Using the custom-written software employed in the MVRC, we are able to control many aspects of the visual environment, including: density of the objects, size of the virtual environment, movement parameters such as amplitude and frequency, as well as many others. We believe that this research will elucidate the visual postural strategies that healthy people use in order to maintain upright balance.
